What is NLP

NEURO LINGUISTIC PROGRAMMING

NLP stands for Neuro Linguistic Programming. It is an art and science of how people change their lives. It is a methodology of communication, personal development, and psychotherapy created by Richard Bandler and John Grinder in California, United States, in the 1970s. Among the appealing features of NLP,  is a connection between neurological processes (neuro-), language (linguistic) and behavioral patterns learned through experience (programming), and that these can be changed to achieve specific goals in life. It is applicable to diverse fields such as psychotherapy, counselling, education, organizational development, coaching, supervision, consultation, and management training.

NLP – SOFTWARE FOR THE HUMAN MIND

Knowing how we are having a feeling, how we accomplish a difficult situation with ease, now we operate within the world will give us useful information with which we can make the changes we want and have more of the enjoyable things that we desire.

In the same way, NLP practitioners do not need to know why it is a chocolate cake, instead, they want to know what ingredients to put in and the step-by-step order to make it come outright. A skilled practitioner knows that there are many ways to make a cake and has many handy tools to assist them in making it. They also want to know how to make a chocolate cake and work backward to the ingredients in case someone has a secret recipe.

When it comes to creating our reality, it is the sequence or order that we pay attention to things through our senses – the pictures, sounds, and feelings and how those are constructed. Think of your television or radio. You have different buttons which control different functions. You have brightness, color, black and white, loudness, stereo or mono, buttons which you used to control what something looks like or sound like. You can control your brain in the same fashion.

People operate from their personal map of the world. This map is an internal construct made up of pictures, sounds, and feelings. We formed this map during our lives accidentally and we have made premature cognitive commitments that shape our present-day reality. These cognitive commitments form the basis for the programs we run.

NLP is the software for the human mind. Using NLP concepts and principles you can begin to bring your brain under your control and have more of the kinds of feelings and thoughts that you enjoy. You can learn to train your brain to get it to give you more and more of what you truly want and deserve.

If we don’t program our brains, they will run on and on, they do what they were accidentally programmed to do. If we don’t gain control of our brain, we are subject to those around us who know how to manipulate to influence us. Therefore it is crucial to learn to program your brain.

HOW TO RUN YOUR BRAIN

NLP brings about self-development and change. First, you use it to work on yourself to become the person you really want to be and can be. Also, you work on yourself so that you can effectively help others.

Many do a lot of air travel. At the beginning of every flight, when you have sat down and put your seat belt on, the staff have you at their mercy and they go through the safety procedures. At this point, the frequent fliers bury themselves in the in-flight magazine, because they have heard it all before and some of them could recite it by heart. But you must always remember one thing about those safety procedures – if the cabin loses pressure oxygen masks drop down and you should put them on before helping anyone else. Why? Because if you don’t put your own mask on, you could pass out and then you are no good to anyone – yourself or another person.

Self-development is the equivalent of putting your own mask on first on flight. The more you know about yourself, the more you are able to help others.

NLP is not about fixing other people and neglecting yourself.

Put on our own mask first onboard a flight!

When you approach change and self-development, you need to be congruent, in other words, you need to be determined to succeed and believe in what you are doing. Congruence means that you are committed to making the change so that you do not sabotage yourself.

Secondly, you need to establish rapport, in other words, work within a relationship of trust and mutual influence.

Thirdly, you need to establish what you want to achieve in that change.

Then you can apply one of the many patterns, techniques, or combinations of patterns that NLP has developed for change and learning.

Your result must be ecological, so it fits into the wider picture without any unfortunate consequences for yourself or others.

Lastly, you future pace, that is, mentally rehearse the new change and learning. This reinforces it and means that you will remember to act differently when the time comes to test what you have learned.

  • NLP is simple and easy to learn
  • NLP, Neuro-Linguistic Programming is about managing the mind through language
  • Neuro-Linguistic Programming is about reprogramming the patterns of our perceptions of the world, the maps of our mind.
  • The maps of our world are in the traces of our unconscious mind.
  • All our perceptions of the world are embedded as our mind’s map of the world, it is our world
  • These maps guide our mental states, physiology, and ultimately our communication and behaviors.
  • By changing the maps we can change our behaviors and our way of living.
  • Thus, we become effective in bringing the desired outcomes of our behaviors.
  • We can build the competence of NLP, learn the NLP techniques master the methods to coach, counsel, and heal others.
  • NLP is not about complex theories of proof. The focus is on results. If it works for us to improve ourselves, to heal ourselves, then, it is NLP.

NLP is founded in 1972 and continuously formulated many masters by modeling excellence in the practice of many experts. devising
