Join the ISNLP

Core Requirements

There are some core requirements that all potential members of ISNLP have to meet in order to join.

ISNLP provides a self-regulatory framework for NLP Professionals and as part of that, ensures that minimum standards are applied to all those who apply to ISNLP for membership. These minimum membership standards are as follows:

Minimum Live ‘Face to Face’ Training Hours
To join ISNLP as a Professional member or above, live face to face training is required and when this training is virtual, it must meet the ISNLP virtual training criteria – NLP Professionals are working with clients and as such, it is important that members do have experience of training and working with real people. NLP is, by its very nature, an experiential subject – whilst online video courses may be a great introduction to NLP, they do not replace the experience of learning and practicing skills with real people and live training observations. After all, would you trust your life to a driver who has only ever passed their online theory test, without ever actually driving a car for real!

ISNLP Membership Terms and Conditions (section 2.1.6) state that:

Due to the current trend towards offering extremely short courses and distance learning qualifications, ISNLP Membership at Professional level or above will only be awarded to those who have qualified on a course requiring at least

50 attendance hours at Practitioner level,
80 hours for Master Practitioner level and a further
90 hours at Trainer level.
Certificates

All training certificates presented as part of membership criteria must have been awarded by a bona fide Trainer or Master Trainer of NLP (section 2.1.7).

As NLP is an unregulated profession, there are a number of ‘NLP Master Trainers’ who have obtained their ‘title’ without going through the rigorous processes agreed by the main certification bodies, to ensure that all training standards are maintained.

If you wish to practice NLP as a Professional and belong to ISNLP, please do your due diligence before investing money in your training, to ensure you are obtaining certification from a bona fide Trainer (for Practitioner or Master Practitioner training) or Master Trainer (for Trainer’s Training), which will be recognised by ISNLP. If you are in any doubt, please check with ISNLP before investing in your training.

Check here to view the current Master Trainers List

This list is not exhaustive and all Training Certificates are checked by ISNLP.

ISNLP Membership Terms and Conditions
Your attention is drawn to the Membership Terms and Conditions, which clearly set out various expectations that all ISNLP Members are expected to adhere to as part of their Professionalism.

These include:

  • ISNLP Code of Ethics (section 1.1)
  • Use of Members Logos (section 1.2)
  • Complaints Procedure (section 1.4)
  • Disclosure requirements (section 2.1.3)
  • Membership Downgrade (section 2.1.5)

Membership Terms and Conditions

ISNLP International CIC has specific Terms and Conditions which apply to all Members at all membership levels.

1. Conditions of Membership
1.1 Code of Ethics
All Members of ISNLP are expected to abide by the ISNLP Code of Ethics and if applicable, the Code of Ethics for Trainers. If there is any breach of this Code of Ethics, ISNLP reserves the right to withdraw membership.

1.2 Use of the Members and Accreditation Logos
All members of ISNLP at Professional level or above are entitled to use the Membership logo on their stationery, website and other promotional materials. This is a Membership logo and represents your membership of ISNLP.

ISNLP Accredited Trainers are entitled to use the Accredited logo on their stationery, website and on any promotional materials relating to courses for which they have received accreditation.

The Accreditation logo cannot be included on certificates issued by an Accredited Member for trainings or workshops. Purchased ISNLP uniquely numbered seals are the only ISNLP image which can appear on certificates issued by Accredited Trainers.

ISNLP Associate Members are not allowed to use the Membership logo under any circumstances.

Under no circumstances can any member, institution or organisation use the ISNLP International CIC logo in any format on their own certificates, promotional materials, website or other medium, unless specific permission has been obtained from ISNLP in writing to use the corporate logo for a specific purpose. ISNLP reserves the right to have a professional conversation with a member at any time should the need arise.

2. Joining or Renewing Membership and The Commitment Period
Membership of ISNLP is a privilege rather than a right. Membership is not guaranteed and ISNLP reserves the right to refuse a membership application or renewal for any reason at any time.

2.1 Membership Applications
2.1.1 Submitting an application, either online or by post, does not guarantee your Membership of ISNLP.

2.1.2 Membership will only be confirmed once all relevant supporting documentation is received. So please ensure that, when you join, that you upload to your profile copies of all relevant documentation including copies of your NLP qualifications and testimonials (if applicable) as soon as possible.

2.1.5 ISNLP reserves the right to downgrade a member to a more appropriate level, if the relevant information appertaining to the membership level applied for is not received within 28 days of application, or proves to be inaccurate in any way.

2.1.6 Due to the current trend towards offering extremely short courses and distance learning qualifications, ISNLP Membership at Professional level or above will only be awarded to those who have qualified on a course requiring at least:

  • 50 attendance hours at Practitioner level,
  • 80 hours for Master Practitioner level and a further
    90 hours at Trainer level.
  • Any certificate obtained which does not include these minimum levels of face to face training (see Section 3) will not be accepted for ISNLP membership. For Associate Level Membership, you can have obtained an NLP Diploma or Introductory Course Certificate with a minimum of 15 attendance hours.

2.1.7 Anyone applying for Trainer level of membership must have an NLP Trainers certificate issued by a recognised NLP ‘Master Trainer’ or equivalent. Please see the list on the ISNLP website for currently recognised Master Trainers.

2.2 Membership Duration
By joining ISNLP you agree to remain a member for at least a Commitment Period. For administrative reasons this period covers the rest of the calendar month in which you join (if you join after the first day of the month) and the following 12 full months (or the following number of months specified in your Membership Application if it is not 12)

The Commitment Period is a core term of membership necessary to allow us, to commit to the level of investment required in providing the service and standard expected by our members.

If you choose to pay your membership fees monthly or annually online by Go Cardless, debit/credit card or PayPal, your ISNLP membership will continue after the Commitment Period.

If you choose to pay your full Commitment Period membership fee in advance by Debit/Credit card or by Cheque, your ISNLP membership will automatically be resigned on expiry of the Commitment Period, unless you renew your membership prior to the expiry date.

2.3 Online Promotion
When joining ISNLP for the first time, please note that the online promotion, where included in the Membership fee, will only be activated upon receipt of copies of NLP qualifications and any other relevant documentation.

Please note that Associate Members are not promoted on the ISNLP search website and any Practitioner wishing to take advantage of the web promotional search facilities is encouraged to apply for Professional level or above.

In addition to online promotion that is included in membership, members have the opportunity to purchase advertising on the ISNLP website. Advertising days must be purchased for each advert displayed.

Advertising, once purchased, is non-refundable and numbers of views/clicks are not guaranteed. If, for any reason, an advert is deemed inappropriate and not approved, then the opportunity will be offered to transfer the days or submit another advert.

2.4 Membership Levels
ISNLP offers different categories of membership. Your choice of membership level on joining will determine the fees you pay and any restrictions that may apply to your use of our Members Benefits.

ISNLP may from time to time introduce new levels of membership; please check occasionally whether your membership level remains the most suitable for you.

2.5 Membership Upgrades
A member may upgrade their membership level at any time during their membership, even mid-year, as long as they meet the criteria of the required upgrade level.

Any person joining at Associate Level and upgrading their Membership to a higher level within a 12 (twelve) month period of joining will be charged the prevailing Administration fee.

Membership subscription changes can be managed online via the Members Dashboard. If you want to make a change to your membership subscription that is not covered online, then please contact the main office on xxxxxxxx or email to arrange this.

2.6 Membership Renewal
When renewing your membership to ISNLP, if you are upgrading to a higher level, please send only relevant information relating to the upgrade e.g. copy of Master Practitioner Certificate or Trainers Certificate.

There is no need to send your certificates or testimonials to ISNLP annually, as they are kept on file.

When you renew your membership, your membership expiry date will be one year from the due date, rather than the date payment was made.

If membership is renewed more than 3 months after the due date, then the ‘administration fee’ will be charged upon renewal, to cover the costs of additional administration.

2.7 Membership Suspension
Full membership may be suspended for up to 12 months at your renewal date, provided you notify ISNLP in writing (including email) in advance of your renewal date. When membership is suspended at the request of the member, no ‘administration fee’ will be payable upon renewal.

In exceptional circumstances, membership can be suspended part way through the year, for up to 12 months. Please contact the Membership Co-ordinator with details, if you wish to suspend your membership part way through the annual period.

Please note: membership suspension is not available to ‘Introductory Members’.

2.8 Cancelling your ISNLP Membership
Any membership service purchased via the website can be cancelled within 7 days of taking it out for any reason, by giving written notice via email to members@ISNLP.org or via post to our current trading address (see above). In the event of a cancellation, 10% of the original fee will be deducted to cover administration costs.

If you are subscribing to monthly membership, you may resign your membership by giving at least 3 complete calendar months written notice, so that your membership will end at the end of the third complete month after notice was given: for example, if you give notice on 1st June it will expire on 31st August, if you give notice on 8th June it will expire on 30th September.

You can give notice to resign at any point before the end of the initial Commitment Period but this cannot end your membership before the end of the Commitment Period.

Once purchased, annual membership is valid for 12 months. Any refund during that period will only be made in exceptional circumstances and at the discretion of ISNLP.

ISNLP may terminate your membership if:

  • The Code of Ethics and/or trainers Code of Ethics is breached.
  • A formal complaint is made and after investigation, is determined to have a foundation.
  • For non-payment of fees.
  • For failure to provide corroborative evidence to support qualifications.
  • After expiry of the Commitment Period, by giving you at least 3 complete calendar months notice.
  • Renewal reminders are sent out by email, and by post. If you choose not to renew your membership, please inform ISNLP as soon as you receive your renewal reminder, so that services and benefits can be stopped.

Upon cancellation or non-renewal of membership, it is expected that members will return their membership certificate and stop using the logos and terms on their promotional literature and website with immediate effect.

Online Promotion, where included in the membership fee, will only be activated upon receipt of copies of NLP certificates and any other information relevant to the particular membership level applied for.

2.9 Data Protection
All members agree, when joining, that their details will be held on a computerised database. It is accepted by members that select data will be made available to members of the public via the website or via phone queries if membership level is Professional or above.

All computerised data held by ISNLP is available for your inspection by visiting the ISNLP website and logging on as a member to inspect your online profile.

In line with the ISNLP Privacy Policy and our GDPR statement, ISNLP also reserve the right to communicate with all Members via the email address provide to ISNLP at the time of joining and when this is updated by the Member at any time whilst the Membership is valid.

All personal information and data is covered by the ISNLP Privacy Policy.

If you require a paper copy of computerised information held, please send a cheque for ₹10, to cover administration costs, to ISNLP, at our current trading address.

3. Criteria for Virtual Training
In order to apply for ISNLP Membership at Professional level or above, any NLP training must adhere to the Virtual Training Criteria listed here:

These are the permanent criteria for virtual training to be recognised for ISNLP membership from now on, because the Covid-19 pandemic created a ‘new normal’ where many NLP trainers had to move their training courses to a virtual environment.

These criteria recognise that virtual live training is still very different to simply doing ‘online’ training!

ISNLP rules on membership requirements have not changed. A Practitioner Training still requires a minimum of 50 hours ‘face to face’ training – it is the definition of what constitutes ‘face to face’ that has changed, which is reflected in the criteria.

4. Copyright
ISNLP materials, including Rapport, are protected by copyright. Please check the copyright for anything that you wish to use. In the same way copyright of content remains with the author, ISNLP reserves the right to use any content submitted to ISNLP e.g., Rapport articles, case studies, website content to promote NLP, ISNLP and the members themselves.

** ISNLP reserves the right to add to and improve these terms at any time.

Membership Fees

Membership Subscriptions, both monthly and annual, are available to all members and can be paid via Bank transfer or UPI Payments.

If you are applying for ISNLP membership for the first time, a membership admin fee of ₹ x will be added to your first payment. This is to cover the costs of processing, checking and verifying your membership application and is a one-off fee, as long as ISNLP membership is continually maintained. If membership lapses by more than 3 months, then the admin fee is charged to cover the additional administration involved in renewing lapsed membership.

Membership Subscriptions, monthly and annual can now be fully managed via your members dashboard. Monthly fees are now available to all members and can be paid via Credit/Debit Card, or Go Cardless (our direct bank payment system only open to those who have a Indian bank account).

If you would prefer to make a one-off payment for your annual membership fees, rather than have your payment details retained, you simply need to wait until your membership invoice is emailed to you when it becomes due. When you receive this invoice, there will be a ‘Pay Now’ link included in the email. When you follow this link, there will be a checkbox asking if you wish your payment details to be retained.

What are the benefits of joining ISNLP?

ISNLP provides members with a range of benefits, all designed to support you to deliver your NLP services effectively and successfully.

  • copies of your NLP certificates
  • copies of your testimonials, or a direct link to your website if your testimonials are available online.
  • These can be uploaded directly into your profile via your dashboard or sent by email.

Please read the ISNLP Cancellation and Refund Policy and Terms and Conditions of ISNLP Membership.

Do I need insurance to become a member?

No.

Professional Indemnity insurance is not currently a legal requirement for NLP practitioners, however, a number of professional organisations, including ISNLP, strongly recommend and would prefer it if you ensure you have adequate insurance cover if you are practising NLP and promoting yourself as an NLP professional. At the very least we encourage you to have Public Liability insurance if you have an NLP or NLP-related business where you have a client or clients on your premises or on rented premises for the duration of the session or course.

Claims for compensation from clients are becoming more and more common in an age of `no win, no fee` personal injury lawyers, and a large claim could be very damaging to a sole trader or small firm without the necessary insurance in place.

Adequate insurance also offers a valid benefit to your clients, which you can communicate to both existing and potential new clients. Insurance provides your clients with the peace of mind that if something should go wrong, there are funds in place to compensate them in the event of a loss or injury.

ISNLP has negotiated discounted rates from Insurance companies which are available to ISNLP members. Click here for more information.

What membership level could I choose?
There are a number of different membership levels available to you which are detailed on the Membership Levels page.
What certifications are acceptable for ISNLP membership?
All certificates will be checked to ensure they have been awarded by a genuine NLP trainer or Master Trainer. In addition, ISNLP sets the following minimum face to face** training hours for any certification to be acceptable for Professional level and above:
  • Practitioner – 50 hours
  • Master Practitioner – 80 hours
  • Trainer – 90 hours
** ‘Face to face’ may include virtual training that meets the ISNLP criteria for virtual training. For further information visit the ISNLP Criteria for Virtual Training Page
Why do you want to see copies of my certificates and testimonials?

The short answer is because we want to continue protecting the reputation of NLP and ISNLP (and therefore your reputation) by carrying out our standard membership checks.

We understand some people will have resistance to providing information in support of their membership application and what is seen as an added burden to their already busy lives. So, it seems appropriate to explain the thinking and long term planning behind this requirement.

We believe that any professional body that is seen to be fair and consistent in its approach to the scrutiny and registration of members will be acceptable to any future government authority with regards to the regulating of NLP. Our approach has been developed in consultation with leading trainers and the insurance industry. Insurance companies are already beginning to look more carefully at NLP qualifications and membership of ISNLP is currently acceptable for a number of them because of the basic checks we have in place.

When a members profile appears within our promotional search facility both on the internet and when sent to people enquiring about trainers, the public can be assured that all our members hold NLP certificates awarded by genuine NLP trainers.

Many of the current `chartered institutions` and professional bodies such as the British Medical Association, started as private organisations that set standards and procedures, and succeeded in their aim to bring reassurance to the public and maintain professionalism within their industry. Our policies are in place to protect both you and the public, as well as the reputation of NLP as a whole.

What constitutes a 'testimonial'?

Testimonials are required for all membership levels, except Associate.

The reason ISNLP asks for testimonials is for additional third-party verification that you are delivering a great service to your clients. After all, you look to ISNLP to uphold the professional reputation of NLP based on standards and ethics and we need your support in maintaining that reputation.

What sort of Testimonials do I need?
Testimonials do not need to be especially obtained for ISNLP, nor do they need to specifically mention NLP  techniques or experiences. All we require are copies of:
  • letters, cards, thank you notes or emails from satisfied and grateful clients
  • feedback forms from workshops / training courses / corporate workshops
  • quotes from supervisors, mentors or colleagues Some of you will already have these listed in your promotional literature or on your own website.
These testimonials are for our records only, so if there are any concerns about confidentiality, please cross out or delete names.
What if I don't have any Testimonials?

Sometimes, the nature of your work prevents you from collecting testimonials. If you do not have any testimonials, then a reference from your supervisor, mentor or trainer will be acceptable.

How could ISNLP help you?
With so many solutions on offer, how do you decide that ISNLP is for you.
